NI Environment Week joining with European Heritage Open Days 2017 - get involved!

(via Northern Ireland Environment Link)

You may be aware that the Department for Communities (Historic Environment Division) run a free weekend each September called European Heritage Open Days (EHOD). This year it will take place on the 9th & 10th September. You will find a link to last year’s brochure here.

The purpose of EHOD is to encourage visits to historical buildings and buildings of interest. It is a celebration of Northern Ireland’s heritage! Last year over 65,000 people in Northern Ireland discovered what was inside all sorts of buildings from gatehouses to cathedrals, mills to former military bases, lighthouses to lock–keepers cottages. Over 300 properties opened their doors last year, and every year exciting new properties take part. This is a FREE event.

What’s different this year?

This year the EHOD theme is ‘Nature and Heritage.’ This provides an excellent opportunity for NIEL and EHOD to work together to provide the public with a full week of nature and heritage themed events. Therefore NIEL have decided to move NI Environment Week to run straight after EHOD. The full week of events will run from Saturday 9th September to Friday 15th September 2017.

How can you get involved?

You may wish to re–create a heritage and nature themed event you have run in the past or put on a brand new event for EHOD and Environment Week only. There are many possible ways to work together and we would like to hear any ideas you may have!

If your event is on Saturday 9th or Sunday 10th September you will need to fill in application form by 31st March by following the link below. Your event will have its own listing in the EHOD brochure and on the Discover NI website. If your event will take place during the week, you will be part of NI Environment Week and will benefit from featuring on a dedicated page within the EHOD brochure.

If you are interested in putting on an event please contact Iona Meyer (NIEL).
